About Us

David Marfleet, Director

‘Not many of us who call ourselves professional fundraisers planned our careers to end up this way. We morphed into the trade!’ admits David Marfleet in his new book, Grow Your Own Charity.

In his case, David spent the 1970s as an Army officer, serving as a paratrooper and helicopter pilot during the difficult years of ‘the Troubles’ in Northern Ireland. The ‘80s saw him living in the jungles of New Guinea with his wife and children while working as a missionary pilot.

On his return to the UK he worked as Director of Operations for MAF Europe and subsequently as Deputy Chief Executive of MAF UK, coordinating the PR and fundraising work of this international Christian charity.

Having worked at every level of the voluntary sector from front-line service delivery, to operations management, CEO and board level, he understands fully the importance of integrated strategic planning when it comes to fundraising.

A Full (Cert) Member of the Institute of Fundraising, David Marfleet has many years of extensive experience at senior management and board level in the voluntary sector and has recently retired as the Chairman of an international NGO.

When not helping good causes become even better, David relaxes by

bird-watching, growing his own vegetables, sampling Real Ale, and running

half-marathon races. He and his wife, Mary, have four adult children and are active members of a Baptist church in Kent.
